An Example of a New
Product Solution from a Customer’s Design Problem.
I would like to give an example of how this process works. Recently
a customer came to us for support saying that no solution existed anywhere
for their particular application, which was based on a new idea. They
required a specialised door seal for an electronic enclosure. This
high cycling door had a requirement for a gasket with a low compression
rate and very limited compression set while giving both environmental
protection to IP 55 and good resistance to UV, Water, Acids, etc. A
clip-on gasket was selected but the gasket clip had to be designed
to accommodate a range of metal doors with varying thickness from 1mm
to 3mm Most importantly, this enclosure needed to be RFI compatible.
The Solution…. A Custom Designed EMI
Hybrid Gasket.
Our European based Product Designer, Christian Brull, designed
and manufactured a custom EMI and environmental hybrid gasket
that met the IP55 and EMI parameters. This design solution solved
not just this particular customer’s application but set
a process in motion where several custom gasket profiles could
be manufactured to accommodate a variety of applications for
other OEM designers. These EMI Hybrid Outdoor Electronic Cabinet
Gaskets using Schlegel’s proven conductive NiCu-C12 or
C70 cladding provide over 96dB of broadband noise attenuation
that is crucial for mid to high range shielding applications.
